You Have Until Sunday!

Have you been out to the Chestnut Hill Designer Show House yet? If not, it’s okay! You still have until Sunday to make your way out to the beautiful Livingston area to tour Firefly Cottage (which is actually the very first house to go up in the Chestnut Hill development!) The house is gorgeous! Particularly the room by SummerHouse…

Did you know that, since Lisa was the lead designer, she was in charge of much more than just designing the family room (pictured above)?! She took the plans of this house and added her special touch, taking them from good to great. A few arches here, some killer finishes (both interior and exterior) there, custom hand railing going up the staircase, a fabulous kitchen… All Lisa!

Be sure to visit the Show House, then come back and tell us what you think!
We don’t think you’ll be disappointed ;)

Designers’ Library

Have you ever wondered, of all the thousands of design books floating around out there, which ones are frequently used by actual designers?

(There are more than one or two of us up here who have about 15 sitting in a shopping cart on Amazon right now, so we know we’re not alone when choosing which ones to invest in!)

We took a quick survey amongst our design staff to find out which books they most love to reference when working on projects. When in need of a little outside inspiration, our design staff turns to….

LISA PALMER’S PICK:
THE HOME WITHIN US by Bobby McAlpine

“It’s my design Bible!”
The Home Within Us | SummerHouse Designers' Library

ELISH PHARES’ PICK:
THE WELL-DRESSED HOME by Annette Tatum

“I love The Well-Dressed Home by Annette Tatum. I love the parallel it draws between personal style and how that is reflected in interiors.”
The Well-Dressed Home | SummerHouse Designers' Library

BETSY PEVEY’S PICK:
GLAMOROUS ROOMS by Jan Showers

“Jan is a Dallas-based designer and has such an elegance in her designs. She loves to pull in a Zebra rug as an unexpected pop in the room. Is is the way she pulls colors and finishes that I love. Very simple and elegant!”
Glamorous Rooms | SummerHouse Designers' Library

CHELSEA SIRMONS’ PICK:
AROUND BEAUTY by Barbara Barry

“The new Barbara Barry book is beautiful. I love her style! This is my new go-to!”
Around Beauty | SummerHouse Designers' Library

LINDSEY TOWNSEND’S PICK:
BLACK & WHITE (AND A BIT IN BETWEEN) by Celerie Kemble

“I love Celerie’s use of different textures and her variations of black, white, and gray with pops of color.”
Black & White (and a bit in between) | SummerHouse Designers' Library

TINA PATEL’S PICK:
DESIGN-SEEDS.COM

“It’s a blog, not a book. But they have all of these great color combinations pulled together from amazing pictures!”
Design-Seed | SummerHouse Designers' Library

Most of the books mentioned, plus many others, are available at SummerHouse!

ELIZABETH GULLETT’S PICK:
INSPIRED INTERIORS by Suzanne Kasler

“Her mix of fresh, current color with old world elegance and thoughtful, classic detailing is unsurpassed in my opinion.”

Suzanne Kasler - A favorite of SummerHouse designer Elizabeth Gullett!

TODD PRINCE’S PICK:
LIVING WITH COLOUR by Farrow and Ball

“I’m really digging this book right now. It is so tasteful, simple, and shows a huge range of styles. The whole book is styled perfectly and the book uses color in so many cool ways to create a look. This book has been my color combo inspiration for a while!!!  Love it.”

Farrow and Ball - A favorite of SummerHouse designer Todd Prince!

One Fine Light Fixture

The Chestnut Hill Designer Show House is coming together!Lisa, Elish, and Marty plan to spend a good amount of time out there tomorrow working on getting things in order, but for now, here’s a little peek at one of our favorite elements of the family room!

This light fixture was made to Lisa’s specifications and it’s absolutely breath-taking! This light fixture alone is reason enough to go to the show house this weekend!

Chestnut Hill Designer Show House

We’re getting really fired up about the Chestnut Hill designer show house, which is open to the public THIS weekend! Lisa, Marty, and Elish have been working fast and furious to make sure this show house is nothing short of fabulous!

The Kitty Williams painting

The Kitty Williams painting

The house is a modern farmhouse, so Lisa says she was inspired to go with earthy colors and natural fibers. She was also uber inspired by this beautiful Kitty Williams horse painting. Although this isn’t the best photo, it’s easy to tell why she fell in love with it!

The blush accents add a little extra life to the beautiful neutral mix. And the materials they’ve been picking out are absolutely amazing… We are all so excited to see how this comes together!

The Preview Party, which is your first chance to see the house completed, is this Thursday, October 25. We have tickets for sale at the store, or you can get them from the Craft Center! They are $50 a piece.

The house will be open for touring this weekend, too, in case you can’t make it to the party. For more information about the show house in general, which benefits the Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi, give the Craft Center a call! (601) 856-7546

New + Pretty Details

The showroom has recently been spruced! Take a quick look at some of the pretty new items and beautiful details that make the showroom floor sparkle! Some of the new things we’re particularly excited about are the Cococozy throws, boxes, and sachets…

Laurel Is Back!

Laurel

Laurel

Happy Friday, everyone! Today’s blog post is kinda different…

The tables have turned, and now I’m the one being interviewed! I (Laurel Donahoo) do all the blogging and social media for SummerHouse, and I’m officially back in the store 2 days a week after a year or so of trying my hand at something else (while still doing SummerHouse social updating from afar!)

For this post, Elish is interviewing me… ☺

1. So you are finally a Summerhouse fixture again after over a year! What is your favorite thing about being back in the Summerhouse mix?

The people!! I’ve missed being around all the great personalities up here on a regular basis! Everyone up here is hilarious… ☺ I’ve also missed the constant inspiration I’m surrounded by, both interiors wise and fashion wise. We’ve got some serious fashionistas up here! And, of course, incredible designers.

2. Tell us how your role at Summerhouse has evolved over the last few years and what you are working on now?

Well, when I was originally hired at SummerHouse in 2007, it was to fill in for KC for a summer while she was on maternity leave! Later that year, I came on full time as Lisa Palmer’s assistant! I did that for close to 4 years before transitioning into just doing social media and leaving the role of Lisa’s assistant to my dear friend Elish! For the past year and a half or so, I’ve been doing blogging and all that for SummerHouse from home, but now I’m back on board as a part-timer stepping up the PR around here (because SummerHouse needs some serious recognition on a national level. It’s gotta happen!) It feels SO good to be back!

3. If your life had a soundtrack, what would be the theme song?

Oh man, that’s a tough one. I guess I’d have to say Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show. Not sure what it means exactly, but I sho do love it. I think it’s my favorite song ever.

4. When you aren’t busy doing social media and marketing for Summerhouse, what do you enjoy doing?

Hm… I love going on weekend trips! Starkville’s been our main weekend destination these days because of football season. And New Orleans is a favorite, of course. I also love cooking, going out to eat, doing Pure Barre, playing with my puppies, and reading when I have weekend down time.

5. What are some things you are excited about this fall?

I love fall for a million reasons! The weather is wonderful, the trees are beautiful, the food is soulful, the bonfires are hot, and fall means Christmas (my fave!) is just around the corner! I also love fall clothes and colors… Boots, scarves, dark nail polish… It’s a good season ☺

6. Anything else you want to say?

If you have any feedback on what you’d like to see more of on the blog, let me know! I’m always open to new ideas!  Thanks!

Paloma Contreras

While at the Visual Comfort showroom at High Point Market, our 4-man market team met the beautiful, always inspiring Paloma Contreras! We adore Paloma’s blog, La Dolce Vita, and admire her skills as Marketing Director of Visual Comfort. It was such a pleasure to meet her! Here’s hoping for another run-in at the next market! :)

Glenway Home BEFORE + AFTER

We’ve got another beautiful before and after to share with you! If you missed the B+A from earlier in the week, be sure to check it out!

This project is entitled Glenway Home on the Interiors section of the website. Here’s the before:

Glenway Home BEFORE

BEFORE

We asked Lisa to tell us a little bit about this space and what the client was looking for. Here’s what she said:

Glenway Home | SummerHouse, Ridgeland, MS

Glenway Home | SummerHouse, Ridgeland, MS

The client wanted a comfortable space for TV viewing and casual entertaining. She originally wanted to paint the stack stone fireplace but I was in love with it and thought it was just the texture interest the room needed. That really was my inspiration for the choosing the colors and finishes.

Glenway Home | SummerHouse, Ridgeland, MS

Glenway Home | SummerHouse, Ridgeland, MS

She purchased the 2 sofas from me years ago so we just made washable slipcovers for them. I also repurposed her large square coffee table. The size and shape were perfect, but it had a dark brown furniture finish that wouldn’t be right. So, I had it chalk painted and installed a Phillip Jeffries grasscloth quarter turned in 4 quadrants on the top. It turned out perfect!

All of the other elements of the space play into the natural, clean, earthy modern feel that the room turned out to have. The client and her family love it!
