Designer Showhouse Feature in Mississippi Magazine

{ mississippi magazine }

The latest issue of Mississippi Magazine has a wonderful 10-page spread on the Designer Showhouse out at Chestnut Hill that our very own Lisa Palmer led the design on! Be sure to pick up a copy and read the story that starts on page 182!

Here’s a quick excerpt from the wonderful writeup!

“Lisa Palmer of SummerHouse in Ridgeland was chosen as lead designer. Palmer chose fundamentals– wall colors, flooring, and tile. She shares, “I received the plans about six months prior to building. I changed the plans up quite a bit by arching doorways, adding cypress beams, rounding corners instead of using casings in openings, adding flatboard to walls and ceilings to give it more of a cottage feel. I worked with Al Bruce on the front door and added shutters instead of sidelights. I used a lot of semi-transparent stains in different mixes to achieve a unique look.”

We hope you enjoy this story, and the rest of the issue, as much as we did!

We are all so excited about this project we can barely stand it! We’ll be sure to keep you posted on the progress!

One Really Big Mirror

Designer Todd Prince just finished up part of a project that we are all going crazy over! This HUGE, custom designed mirror is just what this big, beautiful dining room needed!

Designer Todd Prince for SummerHouse // Ridgeland, MS

About the space:
Todd says the solid masonry wall in this dining room needed something reflective to open up the space. His first thought was to do a really, REALLY big mirror.

About the mirror:
This bad boy is ELEVEN feet high by NINE feet wide! That’s 99 square feet of mirror! Brown’s Fine Art and Framing in Jackson, who made this custom masterpiece, had to rent a space to construct it because it was bigger than what they had the space to make in their shop!

The frame was custom made and custom finished by hand. The frame finish was originally a solid silver, but Allison at Brown’s made it look a little more aged.

Not only did Allison hand finish the frame, but also the rosettes used at the corner of every 20″ x 20″ piece of mirror used to create the full reflective surface.

“BIG shout out Allison Simmons at Brown. She did a fantastic job,” Todd says.

Here are a couple more photos of this beautiful home, holiday ready, for your viewing pleasure!

A Beachy Before + After

How about a great BEFORE + AFTER to get you through the rest of the day?

SummerHouse Designer Elizabeth Gullett was approached by a client who was in need of a bedroom update.
This client was in love with a particular bedroom pictured in Coastal Living and asked for Elizabeth’s help in giving her bedroom a similar feel.

BEFORE

Elizabeth says, “The feeling in that picture was great. It was the exact feeling we wanted to achieve– fresh and beachy and clean. But the client’s house is very refined with lots of antiques. If we did the same look in the picture, it wouldn’t have flowed with the rest of her house. We took the feeling in the picture and made it applicable to her home.”

The client, whose home is located in the beautiful Annandale neighborhood of Madison, said the project turned out even prettier than the picture! She was so happy, which of course left Elizabeth with a huge smile on her face!

A Brand New BEFORE & AFTER

{{ let’s update, shall we? }}

We’ve got a very inspiring BEFORE & AFTER to show today! It is amazing what a great design mind (which would be Lisa’s mind, to be precise!) and a few new things can do for a space!

All of these rooms are in the same house, and all of them turned out just beautifully! This particular client wanted to update her home, keeping some of her favorite pieces while adding some new ones. Take a look at these before and afters!

What a dramatic change! The updates Lisa did to this space opened up the room while simultaneously making it feel much warmer. Cleaner lines, simplification of pattern, and just an overall cleaned up new scheme make all the difference in this beautiful living area!

The client’s daughter actually painted the beautiful piece of art over the love seat, which was the starting point for the sunroom. The wall, the floor, and the furniture were all changed to bring this space into modern times! We love the deep turquoise chair and pillows that ground the space. Just gorgeous!

Loving Lavendar

Loving Lavendar

We are loving the new edition of High Gloss Magazine! Have you seen it yet?  One of our favorite spreads is the lavendar and white home of L.A. based designer Mary McGee.  Her use of texture in the white-on-white design (with statement-making splashes of lavendar!) make the simple color story extremely interesting! She describes her home as “a glamourous treehouse.”  That sounds like so much fun! Mary, can we come visit PLEASE?!

What room do you like the best? It is hard to choose a favorite!

Florida Beach House

Florida Beach House

Check out this beautiful Flordia beach home that Elizabeth just finished up with last week! It turned out so beautifully.  We hope to get a professional photographer down there soon to get us some really good shots! Until then, these will suffice! :)   The serene ambiance sure does make us want to go to the beach for a relaxing long weekend!
