A Little Lamp Lovin’

Lovely lamps are the key to creating just the right ambiance in a space. In many cases, a lamp can make or break a space, adding the perfect finishing touch to an otherwise incomplete room.

Because lamps are SO important, our staff is chiming in on which ones top their lists of favorites!

Lisa Palmer :: Pipa Lamp by Oly Studio

“I love the shape, resin texture, and retro vibe. It works great in a rustic modern space as well as a thoroughly modern one. Great scale too!”

Todd Prince :: Herst Lamp by Arteriors

“I love the combo of marble and brass. It’s chic and modern with a great retro feel.”

Elish Phares :: Ananas Lamp by Ro Sham Beaux

“My favorite lamp has been the Ananas Lamp from Ro Sham Beaux for several years now. This little lamp makes a statement and screams glamour! I hope to one day have a pair for my bedroom!”

Lindsey Townsend :: Cabochon Lamp & Triton Lamp, both by Emporium Home

“Ok, it’s too difficult for me to only choose one! I love lamps so much, I picked two… I love the detail work of the Cabochon Lamp for casual rustic/modern spaces. The stones inlayed in the carved wood frame is so unique!

The Triton Lamp is very chic and sophisticated. I love the added detail of the lucite accent on the base. Makes the perfect statement!”

Chelsea Sirmons :: Mya Lamp by Barbara Barry for Arteriors

“It’s got a very feminine silhouette, I love that it’s glass, and I love the color. It’s a perfect delicate little accent!”

Mya Lamp by Arteriors :: The SummerHouse staff's favorite lamps

Patricia Robbins :: Dagan Lamp by Arteriors

“I love this lamp because of the mixture of textures it has. The middle strip reminds me of snake skin, which I love (faux of course), so it is the perfect item for adding an edgy feel to your space!”

Dagan Lamp by Arteriors :: The SummerHouse staff's favorite lamps

Laurel Donahoo :: Mandarin Lamp by Barry Dixon for Arteriors

“This lamp takes my breath away every time I walk past it on the showroom floor! It’s a really neat combo of old school + modern, especially with the white finish. I will have this lamp in my house one day!”

Mandarin Lamp by Arteriors :: The SummerHouse staff's favorite lamps

Casey Jenkins :: Aqua Crackle Lamp Waylande Gregory

“I love the clean lines I love the crispness of the square base with the stark white paper shade. It’s a vibrant teal and I think it’s the perfect accent!”

Ashley Wooten (our intern!) :: Gilded Driftwood Lamp by Regina Andrew

“I always like to bring nature into the interior of a home when I can. I love how this lamp is dipped in gold because it makes it so fab! I also like the oversized linen shade because it pairs well with just about anything.”

Mason Dixon Cocktail Recipe

If you attended our Barry Dixon event last month, you likely remember the signature cocktail from the evening: The Mason Dixon.

The Mason Dixon is a lovely, refreshing summery cocktail perfect for any southern gathering (which was actually dreamed up by our very own Marty Smith and our next door neighbors at Calistoga Wine and Spirits.)

So you can make it for your friends, we’re sharing the recipe! This recipe is for a bulk amount, so make sure you’ve got a lot of people to help you drink this! It ends up making just about two gallons.

The Mason Dixon bulk cocktail recipe // SummerHouse

What you’ll need:

1 gallon water
1/2 gallon vodka
20 oz. lemon juice
500 mL agave nectar
2 liters ginger ale
fresh rosemary sprigs
fresh sliced cucumber

How you’ll make it:

Mix water, vodka, lemon juice, and agave nectar together in large urn and refrigerate. When ready to serve, pour individual servings over ice and top with a little ginger ale. Add rosemary sprig and cucumber slice.

{ ENJOY! }

Happy Birthday To Patricia!

As SummerHouse birthday week comes to a close, we’d like to give a big helping of birthday wishes out to Patricia Robbins!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PATTY!

Happy Birthday Patty!

As the design assistant of Elizabeth and Chelsea, Patricia certainly keeps very busy! Not only is she a hard worker, but this girl keeps us laughing all the time! We’re glad we were able to celebrate with her over something very dear to her heart: Sonic slushies! (She’s also a HUGE panda fan, so her card– made by Elish– says “Hope you hapanda have a good birthday!” How cute!)

Hope all of you hapanda have a great weekend!! :)

Happy Birthday To Stacy!

SummerHouse birthday week continues!! (Tina’s was Tuesday, Patty’s is tomorrow!)
Happy one-day-late birthday to Stacy Bunch!!

Happy Birthday Stacy!

Stacy enters all of our orders, keeps us well stocked on supplies, and just helps keep everyone around here a degree more sane than we otherwise would be! We love Stacy and wish her a very happy year ahead!

Before & After: Kitchen Update Plus Some!

Today’s Before and After is outstanding! Designer Lindsey Townsend completed a project a couple of months ago that we’re very excited to tell you about.

We’ve been calling this project “The Kansas Kitchen,” although it’s more than just the kitchen! It also included a powder room and a laundry room/butler’s pantry. The transformation is remarkable!

The homeowner is originally from Mississippi but has lived in Kansas the past couple of years, so she was familiar with SummerHouse. After following us for a while on social media, she turned to us for the long-distance project! After a preliminary meeting at SummerHouse, Lindsey took a trip to Kansas to measure the space (there were no house plans!) and take pictures. They met in person two more times, and the rest was done via phone calls and email! Isn’t technology amazing??

The black and white pictures will give you an idea of what the spaces looked like before Lindsey got in on the project. Let’s start with the main room…

Lindsey said the client was a joy to work with because she already had an idea of what she wanted. She had been collecting magazine pages and pinning photos on Pinterest, so Lindsey was able to get a real sense of the style this client wanted to achieve.

The client wanted something lighter, brighter, and simply more functional. She wanted to get rid of the Santa Fe-esque medallion behind her cooktop and open up what was somewhat of a crowded space with only eight foot ceilings. The home is a bit older, built in the 1960′s, so the floor plan was rather choppy.

After knocking out a few walls and moving things around, Lindsey was able to open things up, make the space seem bigger, and bring a lot more life and personality in to the rooms.

One of Lindsey’s favorite parts of the kitchen is the island. She modeled it after a piece of furniture that she and the client both loved, pictured below. They picked out the quartzite island top together while Lindsey was in Kansas, but many of the other materials were bought locally in Jackson then drop-shipped to the home in Kansas.

Before and After | Kansas Kitchen | Designer Lindsey Townsend at SummerHouseThe finish on the base of the island is the result of a multi-step process of staining and white washing. It turned out perfectly, and brings in a rustic element, which the client wanted.

Another way Lindsey created the illusion of taller ceilings was by choosing ceiling mount light fixtures. She also took the backsplash behind the cooktop all the way up to the ceiling, which made things seem more open. “I did a lot of research because I’d never worked with such low ceilings before,” Lindsey said.

Off of the kitchen is the laundry room, which is now also used as a butler’s pantry as well.

After adding shelving at one end of the laundry room, a door on a hinge would’ve been cumbersome, so the sliding door was perfect for this spot, and a great way to save space. It also added to the style of the kitchen.

Lindsey used the same quartz here that she used on the perimiter countertops in the kitchen, as well as the same backsplash and paint colors, making the flow into the laundry room seamless. (The paint colors, by the way, are Smoke Embers and Simply White, both by Benjamin Moore.)

The powder room was also in need of an update, so Lindsey used a remnant piece of quartzite from the island, painted the sink base, and wallpapered with the always gorgeous Kelly Wearstler Imperial Trellis pattern in charcoal.

“The whole thing with this client was getting more function and more storage because she has a large family,” said Lindsey. “She also wanted to incorporate more of a SummerHouse-y feel into her home (which was predominately filled with dark woods and finishes) without any of the update feeling out of place with the style of the rest of her home.”

We love how it turned out, and most importantly, the client is very happy with the result, too, which is the best news of all!

It’s Tina’s Birthday!

{ H A P P Y   B I R T H D A Y }

to one of our favorite people ever:

Tina Patel!

Happy Birthday Tina!!

Today, Tina turns 26 years young! This girl keeps all of us in line and provides comic relief on the daily! We love this girl and we loved celebrating with her today over chocolate covered strawberries and Snickers covered apple slices!

Wishing you many more great birthdays, Tina! XO!
